In at least one small context, the blues are about overcoming adversity through the healing power of music. Consider Jake Kulak and the Lowdown, who were Thursday’s guests on The Day’s “Live Lunch Break” concert series. Sixteen-year-old guitarist/vocalist Kulak and drummer Jeremy Peck negotiated two sets of inspiring and well-played blues and rock — without the usual rhythmic underpinning from bassist Anthony Dailey. At a recent Lowdown gig at the House of Blues in Boston, Dailey fell and broke his leg. Encumbered by his cast, Dailey sat out the “Lunch Break” show — but the musical empathy onsage clearly pleased dazzled fans. If you missed it, we archive all of our “Live Lunch Break” presentations and you can still — and forever — catch it at theday.com/livelunch.
