As the Red Sox wrap up their 20 games in 20 days marathon this afternoon against the White Sox at Fenway, I have to write a quick blog on the Boston Bruins as they get set for Game 1 of the Stanley Cup finals tonight against Vancouver.
As a Boston sports fan, I've had the privilege of watching 3 of my 4 favorite teams win a championship over the last decade:
The Red Sox in 2004 and 2007.
The Patriots in 2001, 2003 and 2004.
The Celtics in 2007-2008.
The Bruins are just 4 victories away from all the major teams in Boston winning a championship in a span of 10 years. This has to be an extreme rarity, if it's even been done at all in that short amount of time.
Many of the "experts" as well as Vegas has the Bruins as underdogs in this series. While the Canucks may be the better team, the script is written for a Bruins win. They beat their rival Canadiens in the first round, swept a team in the Flyers in round 2 which embarrassed them in the playoffs last year and won an unbelievable Game 7 over a great Tampa Bay team in the Eastern Conference finals. What better way to bring the Stanley Cup back to Boston for the first time since 1972 then by taking down the top seeded mighty Canucks.
A decade of sports dominance in Boston. Here's to the B's putting all arguments to rest with the Stanley Cup.
