You know what just showed up in the mail?

An advance review DVD of a new documentary making the festival circuit called Everyday Sunshine: The Fishbone Story.

It’s not hard to figure out what the Missus and I will be doing tonight — particularly since it’s a World Series travel day and we both LOVES us some Fishbone.

Please tell me, out there, that y’all are onboard with the Greatness.

The band was — still sorta is? — a furious, magnificent experiment in which six virtuosic black schoolkids from South Central LA, raised on ska, funk and soul, were intrigued by the city’s Van Halen style hard rock as well as punk, mixed it all together — and basically ripped American alt-rock a new one.

Albums like Truth and Soul and The Reality of My Surroundings STILL blow my mind every time I hear them, and to see the band perform in their prime was an exercise rather like diving headfirst into a jet engine. It's been a while since I've seen them, but I would expect that, with mainstay frontman Angelo Moore and bassist John Norwood Fisher still holding down the band, any lineup is always going to be great. They can't NOT be Fishbone, I'd think.

Here are a few tunes to whet your appetite — and, yes, it’s true I spent one entire week doing nothing but trying to learn — with tepid success, I must admit — Fisher’s titanic bass line on “Bonin’ On the Boneyard.”

Here's "Sunless Saturday." Here's "Mighty Long Way." Here's "Fight the Youth."

Diggeth.

NOTHING like the ’Bonesters! I’ll get back to you on how the documentary is.
