Old Saybrook – An accident involving two tractor trailers and a small cargo truck has closed the left lane of Interstate 95 northbound between Exits 66 and 67, according to the state Department of Transportation.

All northbound lanes had been closed earlier this afternoon.

J.T. Dunn, Old Saybrook Fire Department Chief, says one tractor trailer rear ended a second tractor trailer, sending a significant amount of bananas into the northbound and southbound lanes.

The fire department responded to the accident at 12:53 p.m.

The driver of the first tractor trailer was extricated from the vehicle and taken to Yale-New Haven Hospital, Dunn said. Three other patients were also hospitalized, he said.
