Old Saybrook -- Town police conducting a search and seizure warrant on the home of John Patrick Kelly after a gun discharged and nearly hit a neighbor in her home have seized a total of seven weapons, according to a release from Chief Michael A. Spera.

One of the seized weapons is a .40 caliber handgun that police say was used in Wednesday night’s incident.

Police said that Kelly, 45, of 35 Attawanahood Trail, discharged the .40 caliber handgun inside his residence Wednesday evening. The bullet went through the window of 37 Attawanahood Trail, narrowly missing the homeowner as she was washing dishes. The bullet went through a solid wood cabinet and then through a stainless steel sink, police said.

Also seized Thursday from Kelly's home were numerous magazines fully loaded with ammunition for an assault weapon that was located in the home, Spera said.

Kelly was charged with carrying a firearm while under the influence of alcohol or drugs, unlawful discharge of a firearm and second-degree reckless endangerment.

He is being held on a $50,000 bond and was to be arraigned today in Middletown Superior Court.

Old Saybrook police detectives are still investigating.
