Afghan women surf the net at Sahar Gul, the country's first Internet cafe for women, which opened Thursday in Kabul. The cafe was named for 15-year-old Sahar Gul, who was locked up, beaten with cables and tortured by her husband and in-laws after she refused to work as a prostitute. She became the bruised and bloodied face of women's rights in Afghanistan after being rescued in late December. Thursday is International Women's Day.
