Groton – The first day of spring took a scary spin for 6-year-old Kylie Martin after she wedged her leg between two branches while climbing a tree in her backyard Tuesday.

Kylie's mom, Racheal Martin, said she tried to use corn oil to get her daughter's leg out around 6 p.m. before she called the fire department for help at her Burningtree Drive home.

"Only my kids," Racheal said with a laugh of relief as a Groton ambulance crew tended to her daughter.

The ambulance was to take Kylie to the hospital, Racheal said, to make sure she hadn't broken any bones.

The Submarine Base Fire Department and two Groton ambulances responded to the scene.
