I recently became aware of a situation that exists regarding housing for the disabled and elderly in the Groton area. I am over 49 but not yet 62 and have been on Social Security disability for eight years. If I had been aware at that time that I would be in need of housing these years later I would have applied for housing at that time. Not being aware of this wait, and suddenly in need of housing, I have almost been laughed at when I inquired about current housing.
Three-year wait, five-year wait and some housing that has never placed someone in my category. Where do I go when my earnings from Social Security no longer cover a regular rental? How many people are in this situation? I am a good person who worked hard at my job until I became disabled. I would like to thank the two people who were kind, and at least treated me as a person in a jam. But they could do nothing to help me. I can only see this situation becoming worse. I am losing faith in the system that allows this to happen.
Sales of single-family homes in eastern Connecticut surged in the first quarter of 2012. Do you plan on buying or selling a home this year?
