Groton - Town police said they arrested a 22-year-old local man on burglary charges today after a police dog located him under a pile of debris in an Industrial Drive warehouse.

Erik R. Alvaran, of 37 Depot Road, was charged with third-degree burglary and interfering with a police officer. A bond amount and court date had not been set as of this evening.

Police, including canine officer Richard Savino and his partner, Tek, went to the warehouse at about 2 p.m. in response to a burglar alarm, according to police. Savino found an open window in the back of the warehouse.

The police established a perimeter around the building and conducted a search. Tek was sent into the building  after Savino announced aloud that Tek would be deployed to clear the building. Tek located Alvaran under a pile of debris in a darkened room. Alvaran was taken into custody, police said. He was treated at the Pequot Medical Center for minor injuries he suffered during the apprehension and was released.
