New London — A Preston man was arrested early Sunday morning after he shot at someone in alley between the Bulkeley House and the New London Antiques Center, police said.

Dillon Herman, 24, of 15 Lake of Isles Road, Preston, was charged at 2:53 a.m. Sunday with attempted first-degree assault, first-degree reckless endangerment, carrying a loaded firearm under the influence of alcohol, breach of peace, discharging a firearm in city limits and third-degree assault.

Police said Herman was having a disagreement over a request for marijuana from someone unknown to him in the municipal parking lot.

Herman was intoxicated and also said his truck was stolen, which police said was not the case.

Herman, police said, pulled out a gun and pointed it at the unidentified victim. Police said the victim tried to run away, but fell in the alley between the Bulkeley House and New London Antiques Center.

Herman stood over the victim and fired a shot into the ground, police said. The victim ran away, and Herman continued to chase him. The victim fell again and Herman hit the victim in the head with the gun just as several police on foot arrived.

Herman was arrested. Police recovered a gun as well as a shell casing. His pistol permit was seized too, police said.

The victim was taken to Lawrence & Memorial Hospital for treatment of cuts and bruises.

Herman is out on a $10,000 bond and is scheduled to appear in court on May 11.
