Local High Schooler Innovates to Fundraise For American Cancer Society

Higganum, CT May 1, 2012 -- 15 year old Danni Roman is a member of the Fresh for the Fight Relay for Life team, which raises funds and awareness for the American Cancer Society. A high honor student, athlete and community volunteer, Danni dreamed up the slogan “We CANCERvive®” one day at school.

That evening, Danni hopped onto the computer and searched for websites that make personalized rubber bracelets. She was onto an innovative fundraising idea with her new slogan and wasn’t about to let go. Soon enough, Danni had five hundred 1” rubberized bracelets imprinted with “WeCANCERvive®” in multiple colors to represent the different types of cancer. When asked why she is so committed to this cause, Danni Roman said “I know so many people that have cancer, like neighbors, relatives, and close family friends. I just want a cure found so we can stop this disease.”

The bracelets were an instant hit. Danni and her team of other freshmen at Haddam-Killingworth High School have sold about half of the bracelets so far. The profits from the sale of the WeCANCERvive® bracelets are going straight to the American Cancer Society. Katie Argyos, Community Executive, Income Development for ACS appreciates the special efforts, “The steps Danni has taken to design and create WeCANCERvive® bracelets shows not only her commitment to the cause but also her clever ability to fundraise”.

Danni and members of her team will be selling their bracelets at the Haddam-Killingworth Relay for Life on May 19-20, 2012 at the Haddam-Killingworth High School. Relay for Life is the flagship fund-raising endeavor for the American Cancer Society. its singular mission is to reduce the incidence of cancer-related deaths by funding research and providing support services to cancer survivors and their caregivers.

WeCANCERvive® is the vision and mission of a group of young philanthropists committed to raising money to find a cure for cancer in their lifetime. Initially conceived by a 15 year old high school student that has been an active fundraiser for ACS, Danni Roman launched the WeCANCERvive® theme onto bracelets to raise money for the American Cancer Society.
