Congressman Joe Courtney is protesting the increase in the interest rate of government student loans to 6.8 percent. Mr. Courtney believes that the student loan interest rate should remain at 3.4 percent even though this rate was supposed to be temporary. Mr. Courtney's protestation is a ploy to get votes.
If college students and their parents believe that the 6.8 percent is too high, let them shop around or tell colleges to reduce the fees and charges for the courses of irrelevance. It is my belief that the student should pay as he or she goes through college and not take out student loans which subsidize the excessive costs of academic, meaningless college educations.
Almost all college courses and majors are irrelevant. The American taxpayer should not be subsidizing the college subjects of nonsense by providing low cost loans to idiots.
