Norwich – Two local churches raised $2,800 for Haiti during a recent talent show that featured youth groups from the First Haitian Baptist Church of Norwich and Peniel Church in Norwich.

More than 300 people attended the event at the Kelly Middle School auditorium. Proceeds will go to 35 Seconds for Haiti, a ministry of the Haitian Baptist Church that is supported by Peniel.

The outreach is focusing its initial efforts on meeting needs in Petit Goave, a coastal town 35 miles west of the capital, Port-au-Prince — an area that was devastated by the 2010 earthquake. Nearly $15,000 has been raised since the outreach launched on the one-year anniversary of the earthquake.
