Norwich - The Connecticut Tigers recently made a donation of $5,682 to the Mayor’s Pantry from parking revenue at the Thomas J. Dodd Memorial Stadium.
This is the third consecutive year the team has made donations to food banks in the Norwich area.
“We’re all about being a part of the community,” said Vice President and Assistant General Manager Eric Knighton. “It’s such a good cause and we’re happy to do our part to make a difference.”
Knighton made the presentation to Norwich Director of Norwich Human Services Beverly Goulet, Account Clerk Sheila Molocko and Administrative Coordinator Janice Thompson.
The Tigers, the Class-A affiliate of the Detroit Tigers, saw a 23 percent increase in attendance in 2011 – fourth highest in minor league baseball – which boosted the parking fee donation. Half of the $2 parking fee is donated to the Mayor’s Food Pantry.
The Tigers will open their third season at Dodd Stadium on June 20 against the Lowell Spinners, affiliate of the Boston Red Sox. Individual game tickets to the 2012 season are now on sale.
