Dry weather, finally, gives Pearl a victory at Speedbowl

Waterford - Salem's Jeff Pearl edged Rob Janovic Jr. by less than a car length to win the SK Modified feature at the Waterford Speedbowl on Saturday night. It was the first time in three weeks the Whelen All-American Series was back in action following two straight weeks of rainouts.

Other feature winners were Waterford's Dillon Moltz in the Late Model race (his third of the year), Salem's Corey Hutchings in the Street Stocks (his second of the year) and Lisbon's Ken Cassidy Jr., who won his eighth Mini Stock feature of 2012.

Lou Cicconi won the 50-lap International Supermodified Association feature, a race that was reschedule after being washed out on May 26.

Pearl took the lead from Diego Monahan on 1ap 14 of the SK Modified feature. He held off Janovic and Keith Rocco over two restarts before holding off Janovic at the finish. Rocco wound up third.

In the 30-lap Late Model race, Moltz pulled away from Bruce Thomas Jr. on a late restart to forge his way into Victory Lane while Cassidy rallied on the final lap of the Mini Stock feature to edge Garrett Denton by just .02 seconds.

Hutchings, meanwhile, had a dominating run in the 25-lap Street Stock feature. He build a solid lead over 16 caution-free laps to start the race, then survived four restarts over the final nine laps to win the race. Franklin's Josh Galvin finished second and Joe Arena was third.

Racing resumes next Saturday with its regular Whelen All-American Series, but will be joined by the New England Race Trucks.
