On May 30, a little less than a year after the badly deteriorated Liberty Pole in downtown Mystic was removed, the new pole was installed and now proudly flies "Old Glory" over the village. While there that morning with other members of the Mystic Flag Committee to oversee the installation, I was approached by a middle-aged lady who asked if I was a member of the committee. When I replied that I was, she placed a folded bill in my hand saying "I think it's wonderful what you folks do for our community and I want to help."
I thanked her telling her that it was an honor for us to serve the community in this way. Only later when I took the bill out of my pocket to pass on to our president did I notice that it was a $100 bill. The lady did not identify herself but I hope she reads this letter and makes note of our heartfelt appreciation for this generous donation.
