Westerly Hospital looking for student Explorers

Published December 08. 2012 4:00AM

Westerly — The Westerly Hospital is accepting applications for the winter Explorers Volunteer Program.

The program runs from January through May and allows high school students to gain exposure to the health care professions and the many services that support health care. After successful completion of the program, students will be given credit for hours served.

Students must be at least 15 years old and must complete an application and screening process. Space is extremely limited; applications must be completed and submitted to the Volunteer Services Office by Wednesday and must include a copy of the student’s immunization record. Interviews will take place the week of Dec. 17 and students will be notified of acceptance during the week of Dec. 31.

Once a student has been accepted into the program, a medical screening is required as well as an orientation session. Volunteers will start their service the week of Jan. 21 and must commit to at least one three-hour shift per week.

For information and an application, visit: www.westerlyhospital.org or contact: Heather Ainslie at hainslie@westerlyhospital.org or (401) 348-3969.

The 'grinding' dance style has sparked controversy at East Lyme High School. Should this form of dancing be banned at school dances?
Yes, it's highly suggestive and inappropriate at a school function.
No, teens will be teens. A ban would just encourage them more.
What's grinding? The Charleston is the last dance I learned.
