Congress: It's time to stand up to the NRA

This horrific killing in Newtown has to be the final nail in our gun culture.

The Second Amendment can no longer be the excuse given to protect the "right to bear arms."

This amendment references individuals but also includes militias. This made some political sense after the Revoluti

onary War. It was meant for protection against foreign entities.

The United States has the worst record of deadly violence in the civilized world. It's time to ask ourselves: What as a society do we stand for? The NRA?

What is NRA's purpose? Is it protecting our rights? I think not. Is it to protect gun manufacturers, sellers and the money it brings? I think so.

We must demand that our Congress do more than just talk. Let us join the civilized world. We should be ashamed.
