Dine, dance and smile

Simply Smiles, a nonprofit organization dedicated to helping impoverished children, is working with local businesses for an evening of Mexican cuisine and Latin dance from 6 p.m. to 8:15 p.m. Jan. 25 at Grace Episcopal Church in Old Saybrook. The event is a fundraiser to benefit an orphanage in Oaxaca, Mexico.

Organizer Julia Bjornberg of Old Saybrook has been awarded two grants to purchase medical and education supplies and distribute the materials to the orphanage in March.

Participating restaurants and businesses include the Main Street Grille, Niantic; Burke's Tavern, Niantic; The Black Seal, Essex; Bliss Inc, Chester; Margarita's, Mystic; and Go Fish, Mystic.

All are welcome; suggested donation of $12 is requested.
