Norwich - Norwich Technical High School will hold a series of events this week to honor and remember the victims and survivors of Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting.

Funds that are raised will be donated to Sandy Hook Promise, a nonprofit organization created by members of the Newtown community in response to the Sandy Hook tragedy.

With "Change for Change," students and staff can drop change in a jug in the cafeteria, and a card created by the school's graphics department will be available for students and staff to sign. It will be delivered to Newtown.

The plumbing department is creating a copper "Remembrance Tree" that will remain on permanent display at the school. Leaves for the tree may be purchased at the school all week and at all the events.

The hairdressing, barbering and cosmetology shop will hold a "Cut-a-Thon" on Wednesday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.

On Thursday, the school will hold a vigil at 4:30 p.m. Students from the music department will perform.

Following the vigil, the culinary department will hold a "Tip a Teacher Specialty Pasta Dinner" from 5 to 7 p.m. with teachers serving as wait staff with the help of the culinary students. There will also be a bake sale sponsored by the National Honor Society and others during the pasta dinner.

On Friday, all students will attend a rally to celebrate life, the school community, the community at large and the importance of "connectedness." The public is invited to attend any of the week's events. For more information, contact the school's main office at (860) 889-8453.
