Officials in Springfield, Mass., have deferred a decision on whether to negotiate an agreement with one or both companies seeking to develop casinos in the city.
Mayor Domenic Sarno had set last Friday as the date for announcing the next step in the city's review process, but has delayed that announcement until Feb. 11. Sarno could choose to negotiate a host community agreement with MGM Resorts or Penn National Gaming, or both. Any agreements would then have to go before city voters.
Mohegan Sun and Hard Rock International also are seeking the one available license for western Massachusetts.
