State approves Groton's school redistricting plan

Groton — The State Board of Education on Wednesday unanimously approved the Groton school district’s plan for school redistricting, according to Interim Schools Superintendent John Ramos.

The plan, which corrects a racial imbalance and addresses overcrowding issues, shifts approximately 370 students at different elementary schools. The plan was presented by Ramos and Mike Zuba, a planner for Milone & MacBroom, the company hired to develop the plan.

In addition to the approval, Ramos said the state board commended the Groton school board on its efforts. The school district estimates it will cost $666,381 more in the upcoming school year to accommodate transportation changes associated with the redistricting.
