April 15, 2012, marks the 100th anniversary of the RMS Titanic stiking an iceberg on its maiden voyage and sinking in the North Atlantic. More than 1,500 people died.

Survivors of the sinking of the RMS Titanic approach the RMS Carpathia in this April 15, 1912 photo. The largest ship afloat at the time, the Titanic sank in the north Atlantic Ocean on April 15, 1912, after colliding with an iceberg during her maiden voyage from Southampton to New York City.
