After a 9 game road trip against Tampa Bay, Minnesota and Chicago where the Red Sox went 6-3, they return home tonight for a 4 game set against the Cleveland Indians and their former manager Terry Francona.
There's a lot of firsts happening tonight at Fenway.
It's the first time Francona will be back as a manager of another team since winning two World Series in Boston. I think he will and should get a warm, loud reception. Not as a big as the 100 year celebration but an ovation for the fans to, again, show their appreciation for what Francona did in Boston.
It's the first time players like Dustin Pedroia, David Ortiz and Jacoby Ellsbury will be playing against a manager who they played for and had much success with. I would have to think this would be an extra motivator for these guys to perform against their old manager but we'll see how they react.
It's also the first time Francona will be back at Fenway since his book came out laying out his opinions on the Red Sox front office which aired a lot of behind the scenes details that I'm sure Lucchino, Henry and Warner did not want out. If they were to run into each other over this 4 day span, I would have to believe it would be a bit awkward.
Outside of the Francona-Boston hoopla, it's interesting that two teams who weren't picked to do much this season are meeting in late May as two teams with some of the best records in the American League. It should make for a fun 4 days.

If you're a fan of Boston sports last night was a great night. You've got the Bruins in Game 1 of a playoff series against the New York Rangers winning in overtime with a goal from Brad Marchand. Then you flip to the Red Sox, who...

It was a rough weekend for Boston sports teams.
April 25, 2013
So far, I'm wrong about the Boston Red Sox this season and I'm thrilled about it.
April 8, 2013
Let's not get ahead of ourselves by putting the Red Sox in the World Series just yet but through six games over two roads trips with a record of 4-2, they've been better than expected.

Red Sox vs. Yankees in the Bronx. While there's always a lot of excitement to start a new year, both of these teams have major issues and injuries and by most "experts" aren't given a shot to make the playoffs let alone the World Series.
March 13, 2013
With less than three weeks to go until the regular season, the majority of teams throughout Major League Baseball have issues and the Boston Red Sox are definitely one of those teams.

Red Sox DH "Big Papi" David Ortiz called in to my radio show to talk about the Red Sox offseason, the status of his Achilles injury, his thoughts on John Farrell being named the new manager and more.

Is anyone else not excited at all by the Red Sox offseason?
I was really interested to see what this front office would do with all the freed up money from the LA Dodgers deal and so far I just don't...

After a 69 win season and shedding 250 million dollars in salaries I, like the rest of you, are interested to see what the Boston Red Sox are planning to do this offseason.

"But we know it's going to come down to the quality of players and the roster when it comes to the wins…"
That was the first sentence from John Farrell after he was named the next manager of the...

After the biggest collapse by a team in September in major league history, who would have thought the Red Sox would follow it up with one of the worst full seasons in the history of its franchise?
September 11, 2012
The Red Sox have lost 11 of their last 12. They are 15 games under .500 at 63-78. To say this season is a disaster is an understatement.
August 29, 2012
Wow -- just wow.
When I heard the initial rumors of this blockbuster trade between the Red Sox late Friday night I thought there was no way it would ever get done. Not so much from the Red Sox but why the Dodgers would take on...
August 24, 2012
This season has been a never ending saga of negativeness both on and off the field for the Boston Red Sox. September last year was the worst in baseball history but this may be one of the most disliked Red Sox teams in franchise history from...

Previewing the season you would look at this Red Sox series with the Yankees in the Bronx as a "must see" circle on the schedule. AL East rivals heading into the last month of play neck and neck battling it out for the top spot in the...

A 10 game homestand ends with the Boston Red Sox going 4-6. In the words of Mike Singletary: "Can't do it"
July 30, 2012
Of course the Red Sox would take two of three against the Yankees this weekend giving us the smallest bit of hope for a late season run.
July 20, 2012
Great win last night for Boston.
July 13, 2012
Let's face it. The first half of the Red Sox season was painful.
July 6, 2012
Well that West Coast trip was a disaster. 2-5 against Seattle and Oakland including a sweep job by the A's is not how the Red Sox wanted to end the month after showing some signs of improvement throughout June.
