    Lighthouse Inn owner arraigned

Lighthouse Inn owner Christopher Plummer was arraigned today in New London Superior Court.

Plummer, 47, of 15 Old Hamburg Road in Lyme, is charged with 14 counts of failure to pay wages and 14 counts of failure to furnish time/wage records.

During the brief court hearing, Judge Kevin P. McMahon scheduled a pre-trial conference for Wednesday, Dec. 10.

The Department of Labor issued arrest warrants on Oct. 15 for Plummer and co-owner Maureen Clark based on affidavits from 14 former employees and the owners’ lack of cooperation in producing requested records.

The total amount of wages in question is a little more than $20,000.

Defense attorney Anthony Basilica said the total amount of money in dispute - $25,013.84 - is in an escrow account and the employees would be paid if they could prove they are owed the money.

"Our goal is, if people are owed money, we’ll pay," Basilica said.

Some former Lighthouse Inn employees have come forward to say they are not owed money, he said.

The inn has faced financial problems and its restaurant and bar were closed in August because the facility lacked hot water.
