Maintaining a healthy and robust population of river herring is essential for survival of larger predatory animals and the balance of the ecosystem. Researchers from the Inland Fisheries Division of the Department of Environmental Protection collected scale and fin samples from river herring on April 14, 2010 as they returned to Bride Lake during the peak of the migration season. Analysis of the samples and examination of the individual fish will provide information on the age, sex, size, and spawning habits of the population.
