Woman arraigned in mother's 1993 murder
Thirty-eight-year-old Irene Reynolds was arraigned today in Norwich Superior Court on charges that she murdered her mother in 1993.
Judge Robert Young kept her bond at $ 2 million and transferred the case to the New London courthouse where serious crimes are heard. Her next court appearance is May 24.
Outside the courthouse, Reynolds’ husband, Joel Outlaw, proclaimed her innocence.
“She is sitting behind bars for no reason,” said Outlaw.
The nephew of victim, Bertha Reynolds, screamed at Outlaw, “What about my aunt?”
Bertha Reynolds was found at the bottom of a staircase at her Laurel Avenue in July 1993. She died of blunt trauma to the head and strangulation.
The Southeastern Connecticut Cold Case Unit revived the murder case this year and arrested Reynolds, a mother of three from Baltic on Friday.
