Montville - The state Department of Correction will host an informational meeting to explain the process by which the town was chosen to house the first state-supported sex offender treatment facility in the Connecticut.

The meeting will begin at 1 p.m. Friday in the Town Hall council chambers, Brian Garnett, director of external affairs for the DOC, said Tuesday.

On June 7 the DOC and The Connection Inc., a nonprofit organization that will operate the facility, signed a contract for the 24-bed sexual offender rehabilitation residence on the Corrigan-Radgowski Correctional Center property on Norwich-New London Turnpike. The Connection already operates a transitional program for prisons preparing to return to the community at the Cochegan House on the property.

Mayor Joseph Jaskiewicz said he asked DOC Acting Commissioner Brian Murphy to hold the meeting to explain to residents why Montville was chosen and to provide more information about security measures that will be set in place at the facility.

Garnett said officials from the DOC and Judicial Branch's court support services will address the security concerns and outline the selection process.

Jaskiewicz is hoping to tape the meeting and rebroadcast it on Channel 20 for all residents unable to attend. The 1 p.m. time was scheduled to accommodate Murphy's schedule, Jaskiewicz said.
