Irene Reynolds, who is accused of killing her mother, Bertha Reynolds, in Norwich in 1993, will remain in prison for the foreseeable future.

Reynolds, a 38-year-old mother of three from Baltic, is accused of fatally beating and strangling Bertha Reynolds, whose body was found at the bottom of staircase at her home at 84 Laurel Hill Ave. on July 19, 1993. She has been held in lieu of $2 million bond since the Southeastern Connecticut Cold Case Unit arrested her on May 14. Defense attorney Linda Sullivan attempted to persuade Judge Susan B. Handy to lower the bond at a court hearing today in New London, but the judge denied the bond reduction motion.

Reynolds will return to court on Aug. 19, when Sullivan will let the court know whether Reynolds will be seeking a probable cause hearing. Defendants in murder cases have a right to such a hearing within 60 days of their arrest. The state will present evidence in an effort to convince Handy that they can continue to prosecute Reynolds.

Reynolds is accused of killing her mother after the two of them fought about money.
