Community spirit alive and well in New London

We often hear that generosity, concern for others and a sense of community spirit are lost values in our culture. We're happy to report that all three are alive and well in downtown New London. That was evident Dec. 9, when our business, Caruso Music, unexpectedly lost its heat on a frigid day two hours before a 6 p.m. recital by our music students.

Faced with the dilemma of canceling the program and disappointing our music teachers, students and families, we contacted the Garde Arts Center and the Custom House Maritime Museum looking for space. Both were immediately receptive to our plight.

Within 90 minutes, we had a happy gathering in a warm, beautiful performance space at the Custom House. Our gratitude to the Garde's executive director, Steve Sigel, and Susan Tamulevich, director of the Custom House Maritime Museum. They both represent the best of what community spirit entails.
