I've written before about my love of aerial photography.
Most of the time my aerial photography is of the record-keeping variety, I've been sent aloft to get photos of someplace important to be used for future stories.
Sometimes I get to fly to photograph news events.
On July 9th I was up to do a little of both. It was the evening of the big Sailfest fireworks show and the desire was for a different angle on our coverage, literally. So my mission was to get some photos of the crowds gathering for the fireworks show, and while I was up there gather a few of those record-keeping images for future use.
The photos of the crowds ran in the paper and online the next day. This photo hasn't found a home yet. Maybe it never will, but the light creates a dramatic effect as it illuminates the steeples of downtown.
It really shows why photographers call that time of day the "golden hour".
I can only hope more golden hour photo flights are in my future.
