    H.S. girls' basketball: Bacon wins its first ECC Large title

    New London - Bacon Academy won its first Eastern Connecticut Conference Large Division girls' basketball title on Tuesday with a 70-37 victory over New London.

    The Bobcats (16-2, 9-1) had won three straight Medium Division titles before moving up this season. Sarah Rogers led Bacon with 18 points while Taylor McLaughlin added 14 points, 16 rebounds, seven assists and seven steals, Michaela Siver had 11 points and Carlee Putnam finished with 10 points and four steals.

    Deanna McCarvil scored 20 points for New London (2-15, 0-10) and Tamia DeBarros added 10 rebounds.

    In other games:

    • Ryanne Paige had 14 points, eight rebounds and six assists, including two free throws with 46 seconds remaining to tie the game in regulation, as Stonington topped Windham 53-46 in overtime in the ECC Medium Division.

    Stonington (9-10, 4-6) outscored Windham 10-3 in overtime, with Bri-Ana Johnson (10 points, 8 rebounds, 5 assists, 2 steals), getting four points off a pair of steals. Amanda Roy also had 10 points for Stonington and Margot Calmar had 15 rebounds.

    • Alyssa Velles scored 20 points, one of four players in double figures for Norwich Free Academy in a 60-55 victory over East Lyme in the ECC Large Division.

    Kayla Donovan (13), Olivia Marks (10) and Brittany Molkenthin (10) also scored in double figures for the Wildcats (12-7, 8-2). East Lyme (12-5, 7-3) outscored NFA 24-16 in the fourth quarter, with NFA holding off the charge. Allison Stoddard scored 25 points for East Lyme and Jenna Schumacher had 14.

    • Christine Hadfield finished with 18 points and 14 rebounds as Waterford won its 13th straight game, beating Killingly 50-34 in the ECC Medium Division. Adily Martucci had 18 points and nine steals for the Lancers (16-3, 10-0).

    • Kayla Paris had 19 points and 11 rebounds in St. Bernard's 44-22 victory over Griswold in the ECC Small Division. St. Bernard led 19-14 at halftime, but held Griswold to one point in the fourth quarter to finish off the win. Kirsten Drobiak had a team-high nine points for Griswold (5-12, 4-5). St. Bernard is 12-7, 6-3.

    • Casey Kelley scored 25 points in Lyman Memorial's 65-60 loss to Plainfield in an overtime game in the ECC Small Division. Chelsey Hussey added 15 points and five steals for Lyman (10-8, 6-3) and Alyson Tacchi added 12 points. Plainfield outscored Lyman 7-2 in overtime.

    • Lexis Foster scored 12 points as Fitch rallied in the fourth quarter to defeat Woodstock Academy 37-34. The Falcons (9-9, 3-7) outscored the Centaurs 19-12 in the final eight minutes.

    • Summer Cipriani had 10 points, eight rebounds and eight steals, but Wheeler was beaten by Tourtellotte, 43-35, in the ECC Small Division. The Lions are 2-15, 1-8.
