Mystic author, 98, hits the big time

The accolades keep pouring in for 98-year-old author Jim Henry of Mystic.

People magazine just interviewed the Academy Point resident for an upcoming story about his life while he is also set to be featured in a segment of CNN's Human Factor this week. The videos, which can be found at http://thechart.blogs.cnn.com/category/human-factor/, feature people who have overcome obstacles and hardships.

AARP magazine has also interviewed him for an upcoming article. And according to his granddaughter Marlisa McLaughlin of Pawcatuck, Henry recently learned that former First Lady Barbara Bush has read his book, "In a Fisherman's Language."

All for someone who did not learn to read and write until he was 91 when he was inspired by the story of the grandson of a slave who also learned to read and write in his 90s.

With the help of Mark Hogan of Literacy Volunteers of Eastern Connecticut, Henry recently had a collection of short stories about his life published.
