Providence, R.I. (AP) — A movie starring Bruce Willis and Bill Murray that was filmed in Rhode Island is opening the Cannes Film Festival.
The Rhode Island Film & TV Office says Wes Anderson's "Moonrise Kingdom" will open the 12-day film festival in May.
Executive Director Steven Feinberg says it's an honor the film was selected and that he's proud of local residents who worked on the production.
He says the movie presents a "visually stunning Rhode Island postcard" to an international audience.
The film portrays two young lovers who decide to run away. It's set in the 1960s in a small coastal town in New England.
The movie also stars Edward Norton, Frances McDormand and Jason Schwartzman.
According to a May 2011 article in the Providence Journal, the scheduled filming locations were the Newport area, Prudence Island, Arcadia Wildlife Management area in Hope Valley, Fort Wetherill State Park in Jamestown, the Newport State Airport and Lincoln Woods State Park in Lincoln.
