Last spring, some choir members from Miracle Temple Church in New London joined with Broadway Kids and Company to perform a first-rate version of "Hairspray."
It must have been a happy bonding experience because many of those Miracle Temple folks have continued to work with Broadway Kids, a performing-arts school based in Niantic that attracts kids and adults from around the region.
They're all taking to the stage again, and this time the diverse cast will perform the musical comedy "Crazy for You" Saturday at the Garde Arts Center in New London.
The show is a Tony-winning musical boasting buoyant dance numbers and a greatest-hits Gershwin score, with such happily familiar songs as "I Got Rhythm" and "They Can't Take That Away from Me."
The story finds a New York playboy sent to a poor Nevada town to close a theater there. His plans change when he (naturally) falls for a local gal, who happens to be the daughter of the theater owner. What else to do but try to raise money to save the theater by ... putting on a show.
