When Moe's Southwest Grill recently opened in Waterford Commons, an employee said it was like a Mexican Subway. You probably won't see Moe's using that as an advertising slogan any time soon, but it's spot on.
As you work your way down the line, you tell them what meat, veggies and cheese you want. Instead of a grinder, you're building a taco or burrito.
On my visit, there's was a good-sized crowd, and those near me in line knew the drill, a good sign that they're getting repeat business.
I ordered a soft chicken taco, called the Overachiever, and had them add pinto beans, shredded cheese, pico de gallo and guac. I also ordered a side of rice and a soda. Everything comes with chips and salsa.
For under $7, it was a good value. The taco was tasty, although not the best I've ever had. The rice was ordinary in every way. I'd take Popeye's Cajun rice any day.
The lunch options in eastern Connecticut run too heavily toward grinders and burgers, so it's nice to have Moe's, where you can grab a quick taco, burrito, quesadilla or fajita.
