Kevin James performs at Mohegan Sun

Add this to things I'm surprised I didn't already know: Kevin James' real name is Kevin George Knipfing.

Well, James is certainly easier to pronounce than Knipfing, I'll give him that. And easier to spell on a marquee.

In any case, James is in the midst of a major stand-up tour, stopping tonight at Mohegan Sun Arena.

What has helped propel James from stand-up regular to sitcom stardom (see "King of Queens") is his everyman sense of humor and goofy-good-guy appeal. He exhibits those very same qualities in his films - think "Hitch" and his string of high-concept movies whose titles say it all: "Paul Blart: Mall Cop," "I Now Pronounce You Chuck and Larry" and "The Zookeeper."
