The only multi-layering artistic technique I've mastered is in the context of fashion. I like orange leggings, a green and red plaid kilt, and a teal tank top covered with an unbuttoned tropical print shirt.
Fortunately, artist Debi Friedlander (above) has much more sense and creative talent: she's developed a layering multi-media technique that combines digitial photography with the luminous shadings of colored pencils. Her new show in the Gallery at Riverside Press in Essex is called "eMerging Color: drawing on nature for inspiration," and kicks off with an opening reception Sunday from 2 to 4 p.m. The exhibit runs through June 22. 18 Plains Road, Essex. Hours are 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Mon.-Fri. and 1-4 p.m. Sat. (860) 767-8752.
