Waterford - The latest play by Theresa Rebeck - the Broadway and off-Broadway playwright who created the NBC drama "Smash" - is one of eight selected for this summer's National Playwrights Conference at the Eugene O'Neill Theater Center.

In Rebeck's "Fool," which will be performed July 27 and 28, two jesters go head to head: Who is funnier?

The other plays are: "Provenance" by Anne Garcia-Romero; "Reclamation" by Ken Weitzman; "Two Lakes, Two Rivers" by Laura Jacqmin; "Hype Hero (King Patch)" by Dominic Taylor; "Alligator" by Hilary Bettis; "Orange Julius" by Basil Kreimendahl; and "The Tall Girls" by Meg Miroshnik.

Playwrights spend July developing and presenting staged readings of their work during NPC's 48th season. Online ticket sales begin June 8 for the general public; visit www.theoneill.org. Advance tickets are available to O'Neill members starting May 16.
