Stonington— Girl Scouts of Connecticut donated 5,460 boxes of Girl Scout Cookies to the Coast Guard Foundation April 13. More than 120,000 boxes of cookies were purchased this season for the Cookies for Heroes Gift of Caring program, where customers could buy cookies for service men and women overseas and at home. The Coast Guard Foundation loaded cookies onto three vehicles, with one headed toward New York and Staten Island, another throughout southern New England, and a third to the Coast Guard Academy, International Ice Patrol and the Coast Guard Research and Development Center. “Our Cookies for Heroes program is a wonderful way for us to give back to those who give so much in keeping our country safe and secure for all of us,” said Jennifer Smith Turner, CEO of Girl Scouts of Connecticut. Anne B. Brengle, president of the Coast Guard Foundation, said the foundation was grateful for the gift to the Coast Guard.
