The Drug Enforcement Agency, state police and local police departments will hold a “Prescription Drug Take-Back Day” this Saturday.

The service allows people to safely and anonymously get rid of expired, unused and unwanted prescription drugs at certain drop-off sites around the state. The event will run from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., Saturday, April 28.

Locally, registered drop-off sites can be found at the East Lyme Community Center; the Groton Senior Center; the Groton City Hall; the Norwich Police Department; the Old Lyme Fire Department and the state police Troop E barracks in Montville.

Across the country, previous “take-back” days have collected nearly 1 million pounds of prescription drugs.

For more information on drop-off sites, visit www.dea.gov and follow the links to a database, where you can enter your zip code to find the nearest location.
