Stonington - Col. Karl Frost of Old Saybrook, a Marine Corps attack helicopter pilot who has flown numerous combat missions in the Middle East, will give a lecture entitled "Afghanistan and the Khyber Pass," at 6 p.m. Friday, May 4, at the La Grua Center on Water Street in Stonington Borough. The event is open to the public and free of charge.
Frost will discuss the regional history, culture, tribal dynamics, geopolitical climate and U.S./NATO presence in the area. The discussion will also highlight some of the successes and challenges met by Allied forces currently operating in Afghanistan.
Frost has served for more than 28 years in the Marine Corps and flew for almost 20 years as a AH-1 Cobra Attack Helicopter pilot, accumulating more than over 4,000 flight hours and more than 600 combat flight hours.
His most recent deployment was as commander of a unit in the Khyber Pass on the border of Afghanistan and Pakistan. He is a veteran of five combat deployments in Kuwait, Iraq and Afghanistan.
