Groton — Town police have charged an 82-year-old Fulton Drive man with negligent homicide after a more than four-month investigation of a Fort Hill Road accident.

George Evans of 50 Fulton Drive also was charged with failing to avoid a pedestrian in a crosswalk. He was released on a $25,000 bond and is scheduled to appear May 11 in the New London court where major crimes are heard.

The fatal motor vehicle crash occurred on Fort Hill Road at Vergennes Court on Dec. 6. Police say that the vehicle Evans was driving struck 51-year-old Anthony McClellan, a life-long resident of Groton, while he was crossing the street in the crosswalk.

The state’s Office of the Chief Medical Examiner later ruled that McClellan had died of accidental blunt head trauma.
