NEWTOWN, Conn. (AP) — Police in western Connecticut have charged a 68-year-old man with murdering his wife in 1984.

John Heath of Bridgewater was arrested on a murder warrant early Tuesday in connection with the death of Elizabeth Heath, who vanished from the couple's home in Newtown 28 years ago. He was held on $1 million bail pending arraignment Tuesday in Danbury Superior Court.

Additional information about the arrest wasn't released.

Elizabeth Heath was 30 when she disappeared. The new owner of the couple's former property discovered her skeletal remains under a barn floor in April 2010.

The medical examiner's office ruled that Elizabeth Heath died from a blow to the head.

John Heath has said his wife disappeared and he didn't know where she went.

It's not clear if Heath has a lawyer.
