An instrumental history

If, like Peter Griggs, you're going to condense five centuries of guitar compositions and performers into one digestible concert, the big question is how much Buckethead to include.

For Griggs, the answer would be None.

However, when Griggs performs "500 Years of Music for Guitar," as he will do Sunday in St. Ann's Episcopal Church in Old Lyme, you won't be shorted on Greatness. Griggs, a New York City-based, internationally renowned instrumentalist/composer, will explore classical and jazz guitar from the Renaissance to current times. The set will include pieces by Gaspar Sanz, Johann Sebastian Bach, Django Reinhardt, and Thelonious Monk as well as interpretations in the Flamenco and Brazilian styles.
