Taylor made: Paul Taylor is among the last of those choreographer titans who created modern dance in America. The 81-year-old is still at it, and so is his company. His Paul Taylor 2 is performing Sunday at the Katharine Hepburn Cultural Arts Center.
Who's 2? Paul Taylor 2 is a 6-member dance company Taylor created in 1993. He wanted to make sure audiences everywhere could see his work, no matter what financial or technical constraints might apply.
What works: Paul Taylor 2 will perform Airs, Runes and Company B here. Company B is set to songs from The Andrews Sisters, and the dance recalls the WWII era. According to Taylor's information, it depicts "an America surging with high spirits, but the dance reminds us that legions of soldiers never returned from battle. One young woman pines for a sweetheart who, thousands of miles away, embraces a fellow serviceman."
