Ledyard — A Ledyard teen was cited for traveling too fast for conditions Monday night after she lost control of the car she was driving, causing the vehicle to strike a utility pole and roll over in the area of Center Groton Road near Colonel Ledyard Highway.

Police said Winter Riffle, 17, of 1920 Center Groton Road, was driving a 1993 Ford Escort when the accident occurred at 8:57 p.m. The accident briefly closed the roadway.

Riffle and her passenger, Tammy Avery, 23, were taken to Lawrence & Memorial Hospital for treatment of minor injuries, police said.

The Ledyard police and fire departments along with the Ledyard Volunteer Emergency Squad and a Lawrence & Memorial Hospital Paramedic responded to the scene.
