Groton— The Groton Rotary Club honored Cryptologic Technician Maintenance First Class Kirby Knopik April 24 as the Service Person of the Month for April.
Knopik, of the Navy Information Operations Detachment Groton, was chosen for his impressive community service record, according to the Navy. As just one example, Knopik drove around the areas affected by Hurricane Irene with a generator in the back of his truck.
Retired Capt. Denny Hicks said Knopik was an excellent choice because “his devotion to duty and community service record is a testament to his character.”
The Service Person of the Month is a Naval Submarine Base program that highlights the achievements and contributions of service members to the community and their command. Each month a different local organization recognizes the Service Person of the Month.
“It’s a little overwhelming,” Knopik said. “I just want to say thank you to the Rotary Club and the Chamber of Commerce for your support. It’s an honor to be recognized by you.”
