A few months back David Collins wrote a column on the traffic system, "A rare traffic control system: Three in, three out," (Sept. 28), which had been established through the two areas of Route 1 that are under reconstruction in Stonington, requesting on a voluntary basis that three cars at a time proceed in alternating directions. He wondered at the time how long this system would be effective. Well, the results are in. It no longer is. Either: 1) people can't count to three, 2) they cannot read and comprehend the meaning of the signs, or 3) they feel a special entitlement that exempts them from cooperating.
Although given the state of education these days the first two are certainly possible, I think it is the third case that is the cause. Come on folks, let us all be courteous and obey the rules.
