Man extricated from hatch of fishing boat in Westerly

Westerly – A Life Star helicopter is preparing to land at the Avondale Farm Preserve after a man at a nearby boatyard reportedly fell down the hatch of a fishing boat and suffered a head injury.

The Westerly Fire Department extricated the man, whom an emergency dispatcher said had been stuck in the hatch, upside-down, since about 1 p.m. this afternoon.

The man's condition was not immediately known.
